Slumdog millionaire

Movie Review : A

I think this is probably the first Indian movie that I have ever watched, and this movie is awesome =)

If you have ever watched Bollywood movies, you will probably see the movies content a lot of dancing and singing, but this is what you won’t see in Slumdog Millionaire, and it is probably due to the movie was produced in India but it was directed by British filmmaker Danny Boyle.

The movie plot is good, some parts are a little graphic and violent, a bitter sweet love story, and the movie gets to show you the poverty in India.

Definitely a worth watching movie :D

Story of the GMAT taker ; from author personal experience.

GMAT

GMAT

Quick note : This article is dedicated to whoever preparing for their GMAT test, the possible future GMAT taker, or whoever read my blog regularly.

If you are not familiar with GMAT, GMAT stands for “Graduate management admission test” which every business student has to take before they apply for graduate school. Since I am planning to go back to school in this fall, I need to take this test in order to use the result to apply for school.

The typical preparation for GMAT test is about 3-6 months according to GMAT handbook, but the duration for preparing for GMAT can be varied since every individual has different knowledge ’s depth in math and english language.

Well, for me, I only spent like about 1 month to study/prepare for it. Which I thought it should be enough for me to score at least 500 for the business school that I intended to apply. On the other hand, GMAT is testing the general knowledge of high school math and english, and I thought shouldn’t be too hard for me.  Since it didn’t worry me too much, I just took it easy, and within that one month, I have done the Kaplan practice test, both math and english and they all seems pretty straight forward BUT…… everything thing seems fine until I actually took the test yesterday morning, the test was HORRIBLE … and my result didn’t meet the requirement of the school…I SCREWED !!!!

But guess what, it’s all good, I deserve it, cause that is what happen when you take thing lightly.

This is what bothered me in the test:

  • My lack of preparation and prior knowledge to the question made me stuck with the questions that I didn’t know how to solve, and time was ticking when you are stuck with difficult questions.
  • When you are stuck in one place, and you see the time is still ticking, that can make you rush yourself and get nervous.
  • Taking the test from the book and from the computer are different, because you don’t get to review all questions at once but one question at a time.
  • The marker and the erasable notepad that the test center provided SUCK!!! But you have no choice but get use to it.

Practice makes perfect and be prepared !!!!!

Even though I admitted the defeat but I promise I will make a big comeback next time… :D

But $250 is a little too expensive to buy this freaking experience isn’t it? =D

Lesson of the day : Never underestimate your opponent and take the challenge lightly.

Advice for future GMAT’s taker : Knowing how to do the practice test’s question is not enough, you need to really know what to do when the question is ask differently, unless you have a strong knowledge background in both math and english. TIME MANAGEMENT is CRUCIAL in the test.

What’s up?

How is it going guys?

First of all, I would like to say Happy New Year to you all. Is nice to be back and I finally convinced myself to write something on my blog again.

In this very new year, I wish everyone will bring newly found prosperity, love, happiness and delight into your life.

When I say to write something here, I really mean it .. lol … that’s all for today.

I will try to write more next time. Have a good one :)

This is how you embed youtube video on malaysiaflavors’ blog network.

All you need to do is to copy the “=” onward of the link into your blog post and put “youtube” and a space before the link that you copy from youtube, make sure you put the open and close bracket for the whole youtube link embed.

If you are still not sure what I am talking about here.

Here is the guideline:

From the link above http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeJ4jAoc2BM&feature=related, I will just copy “SeJ4jAoc2BM&feature=related” and paste them into my blog post.

So it will be “[youtube" (paste whatever you copy from the link) "]“

Hope it helps.

Where do we go after death ?

How many of you have the answer for this question ? And what make you believe it?

If you take this question to most Christian, their answer will probably be “to heaven”.

But ironically me myself as a Catholic, I don’t really don’t have the belief of “people die and their soul will go to heaven”. I kept thinking of this question since I lost my grandaunt in May this year and it was the saddest thing ever happened in my life.

I have to say that I miss her a lot, possibly more than anybody, cause she is as close to me as my mom or even more than that. She is also the kindest person I have ever seen in my life and give me the greatest love. It is really hard for to get used to the world without her.

Ever since she was gone, what I kept myself thinking is “where is she now?” “Can she sees what I am doing now?” and sometimes l will have hard time to fall asleep in the silence night and I will get struck by the feeling telling me that “I still can’t believe that she is no longer with us”

I’m having hard time to deal with this complicated feeling inside me …

All I ask for is “God, please bring me out of this agony. If I believe in you, why I can’t believe that she is sitting right next to you in the heaven? And please tell her that I miss her a lot. Amen”

Is Crocop done in his MMA’s career?

Cro cop

Cro cop

It was so disappointing to see Crocop demolished by the UFC new rising star “Junior Dos Santos” last Saturday night at UFC 103.

Crocop has always been one of my favorites MMA fighters since he was in his prime in PrideFC. His left head kick to the opponent’s head is always one of the highlight in MMA promotional video.

In his fight with Dos Santons, it was pretty obvious that Cro cop is going out of shape started in the first round of the fight. While Dos Santos was pushing forward to strike, all he can do was to counter the Dos santos’ attacks by pushing him away, and he repeated the same pattern over and over again throughout the whole fights.

It was really sad to watch a MMA superstar to be tortured by his opponent round after round, until he busted his eye socket and the cuts over his face.

The cro cop’s fight with Dos Santos suppose to be the comeback fight of Cro cop in the UFC to test himself against a bigger and stronger opponent. Instead of his big comeback, he has shown his lack of agility and power to counter a bigger and stronger striker.

And the following is quote by Cro cop after he defeated by Dos Santos, copied from Bloodyelbow:

I’ve been living a military life for 20 years now. Getting up at 6 A.M. and having physically challenging task up to 8 P.M. I want a normal life. I’m entering a cage and thinking about fishing in Privlaka. You can’t win that way. Maybe I should’ve quit after I won the open weight grand prix.

I think this is enough said for the fans that he is pretty done with his career and his passion for this sports is gone.

As his fan, I think is time to let this MMA legend retired, he had done enough for this sport and earned his respect.

Retire In Peace – Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović !!!

Blogging dilemma …

Oh crap !! I can’t even remember when is my last blog post, probably a couple months ago.

It is always a struggle for me to start writing a new blog post, whenever I start writing, my over consciousness start kick in and it makes me concern about how people will view my writing, and the writing reflect how people think who I am.

I think something was wrong with my first intention of starting this blog. At the very beginning, this blog is meant to be something for me to leave the track on my progress of building malaysiaflavors.com, but since then, the progress is not just slowing down but also deteriorated.

Besides, writing blog also make me realize myself as a very private person, I don’t feel free to talk about my family, life, thought, and sharing photos and stuffs on the web.

What should I do now to my blog? What should I write about? What is my niche?

Have you encounter same feeling while you are writing blog?

Are we really taking control of our mind?

I find this video very interesting. It is about if we are really rational when we come to make decision.

“Red Cliff” 赤壁

MOVIE REVIEW : A+

I have recently watched a really good Chinese film named “Red Cliff“, and this is probably one of the best movies I have ever watched. I normally don’t watch Chinese film too often, since Chinese film has always give me a bad impression about how ridicule they can make the story line look like and the computer effect that they used in the movie is kind of suck compare to Hollywood.

However, Red cliff is different.

Red Cliff (Chinese: 赤壁), also known as The Battle of Red Cliff, is a Chinese epic film based on the Battle of Red Cliffs and events during the end of the Han Dynasty and immediately prior to the period of the Three Kingdoms in ancient China.

If you are Chinese, or if you know any story of Three Kingdoms《三國志》, you will definitely like this movie.

———————————————————————————–

Here are some movie intro from Wikipedia.com

The film is expected to be released in two versions. Within Asia, Red Cliff was released in two parts, totaling over four hours in length. The first part was released in July 2008 and the second in January 2009. Outside of Asia, a single 2½ hour film will be released in 2009, according to the source from Wikipedia.

The film was directed by John Woo, and stars Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei. With an estimated budget of US$80 million, Red Cliff is the most expensive Asian-financed film to date. The first part of the movie alone grossed out $124 million in Asia and broke the box office record previously held by Titanic in mainland China.[4]

Director John Woo said in an interview with CCTV-6 that the film will use primarily the historical record Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms as a blueprint for the Battle of Red Cliffs, rather than the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. As such, traditionally vilified characters such as Cao Cao and Zhou Yu will be given a more historically accurate treatment in the film.

————————————————————————————

Of course, now you can watch Part 1 and 2 of this movie via online streaming program such as PP Stream (That’s where I watch it :D )

PP stream is a Chinese peer-to-peer streaming video network software. Since the target user is in Chinese mainland, and oversea Chinese, therefore,  the software is only in Chinese. The software is pretty handy though, cause you get to watch almost all American TV series, just like how Hulu.com works, but PP Stream has more choices.

Click here for direct download of PP Stream Software.

Thank you for reading and I hope you will like this movie as much as I do.  :)
